Medicine & First Aid


All medication needing to be administered during school hours should be left with your child’s class teacher.  A medicine form, available to download below or from the school office, must be completed in full.  No medication will be given without the authority of the parent/guardian.  Children using prescribed inhalers for asthma may keep these with them or in the classroom in a designated cupboard.

First Aid

Unfortunately, children are sometimes involved in accidents at school. Most of the time, this is dealt with in school, by a member of the support staff.

Simple cuts and grazes are washed. We will not apply plasters unless essential. We do not use antiseptic creams or wipes, just fresh water to clean wounds.

If we feel the accident has been particularly traumatic for the child or that the injury sustained needs more specialised treatment, we telephone for a parent or other named contact to come to school to assess the situation and to take the child home for more attention.

For a head injury, a paper head bump form is issued to be taken home by the child and a head bump sticker is given to them to wear for the remainder of the school day so that the class teacher can keep an eye on them.

If the injury is more serious and needs further attention, we telephone either a parent or other named contact to come to the school immediately. If they are unavailable, we will make arrangements for the child to be professionally assessed. Several members of staff have Paediatric First Aid qualifications and are called upon to assist in the rare event of more serious injuries.

If a child falls ill whilst at school, we will telephone the parent or other named contact for the child to be taken home.

Children who have stomach upsets involving sickness and diarrhoea should have 48 hours at home, after the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea, before they return to school.
