Enriching and Extending the Curriculum

The school is committed to offering a rich and varied curriculum. We frequently host educational speakers, travelling theatre groups, authors and musicians to deliver performances and experiences to individual year groups, key stages and the whole school. We have invested in two new 17-seater minibuses to offer more frequent out-of-school visits (at minimal cost to parents and carers). Our recent visits have included Ashdown Forest, Chatham Dockyard, Dover Museum, Lullingstone Roman Villa, Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium, Herstmonceux Observatory, Howletts Zoo and Turner Contemporary. We similarly use our buses to transport children to and from numerous music events and sporting fixtures, ensuring equality of access to our extended curriculum opportunities.

Teachers collectively agree and plan an annual programme of themed learning weeks, currently comprising science, maths and book weeks. Similarly we celebrate special days, such as European Day of Languages, and national fundraising days and events. Last year we introduced a House system to our school organisation.

We forge strong links with the local community and offer a varied programme of school and community-led extra-curricular clubs and activities.
