Dear parent / carer

I am delighted to inform you that we have now appointed a new Principal for PWPA. After the tragic news of Mr Opstad’s untimely death, and an important period of reflection, it was important that we secured the future of the academy for pupils and families.

Following a selection process which took place yesterday involving governors and senior staff, we have appointed Mrs Libby Fidock as Principal of PWPA with effect from Monday 7th June 2021. This ensures continuing strong leadership across the school and avoids any unnecessary or unhelpful period of delay that would lead to concerns about the future of the academy.

Mrs Fidock is an extremely strong and experienced candidate; this post will be her fourth headship. She is currently Principal of Langley Park Primary Academy in Maidstone, part of Leigh Academies Trust (LAT). She has led this academy since its inception and achieved several outstanding accolades from Ofsted at its first inspection. Recently, she has also been leading Marden Primary Academy through a period of change after the school joined LAT last September.

I know Mrs Fidock is keen to write to you herself to set out her plans for the future which she will do soon. Her induction at PWPA will start almost straight away and will give her an excellent opportunity to get to know pupils, parents and staff.

Can I thank you all for the remarkable support you have given to PWPA over the last few very difficult weeks. It has been a great comfort to staff knowing that you are all behind them. I know that will continue as we now embark upon the next chapter.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Beamish | Chief Executive
